Beginning September 10
When I say culture, I mean the total way of life of a group of people. Cultures are laws and rules passed from one generation to the next generation. Someone has said the three most important pillars of any culture are:
· Vision – Who we are
· Values – What we believe
· Behavior – How we act
I think it goes without saying the American Culture is being regularly confronted with “who we are, what we believe and how we act.” Our country that was founded upon Judea Christian principles is now face to face with the show of increasing hostility towards the Christian faith, our traditions and despising our moral values. Declaring them obsolete and that we should be accepting of a new kind family.
Many Christians are aware that there is a cultural shift occurring. Though American culture has never been fully "Christian" per se, today the culture is becoming increasingly anti-Christian. All anyone has to do is turn on prime-time television to see how the culture is promoting beliefs, activities, and lifestyles that are in total contradiction to the Bible and Christian living. Almost every week, there are news stories of Christian bakers, or photographers, being sued for refusing to participate in homosexual weddings or military chaplains being penalized for standing for biblical truth. It is clear that the divide between the "church" and the "world" is becoming more accentuated and more defined. Should Christians do nothing? Should Christians isolate themselves from the culture? How do Christians ""be in" this culture, yet "not of it"? How do we “confront our culture?”
Our last series “Facing Life With Faith” challenged us how to live by faith. This series will challenge us on how we live out our faith in our homes and in our communities. Please make plans now to join us beginning Sunday morning, September 10 as we learn together how to “Confront Our Culture.”
