Loving The World
The final part of our discipleship journey comes from the Great Commission in Matthew 28:19-20. Jesus told his followers to go make other followers. So the first way we love the world is to care enough about them to share our faith and lead them into a relationship with Jesus. That means we strive to communicate the love of God with those around us and then share our life with them.
But it also means we meet the needs of the poor and hurting. James 1:27 says, "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world." We do that in a number of ways. Our church has adopted three different women's shelters. We provide support by working at the shelters, providing parties for the women and children, decorating rooms, and giving food and clothing items. We also support other groups in the city, like Stepping Into the Light, who works with homeless alcoholic men, sharing not only the love of Christ, but also the way to sobriety.
We also strive to fully engage in God's mission to the world. We take trips to Mexico every year to work on building churches, orphanages, or buildings to support God's work in local areas. We also give to a whole list of missionaries, and encourage all our people to find a ways to use their particular skills in the Great Commission. We would love to help you find your place in serving and giving. For more information, contact us at wcag@wcag.org.
